How to upgrade Automai RPA and rWorker?

This article provides steps to upgrade Automai RPA and rWorkers.

Besides minor updates, there are also major release upgrades; upgrading will provide access to all the new features and improvements.

Please review the information contained in the Release Notes.

Important: Before upgrading, backup the current Automai RPA data.

1. Log in to the machine where Automai RPA is installed.

2. Open "Task Manager" and go to "Services" tab.

3. Stop the three Automai Services: Automai Database, Automai Scheduler, Automai Webserver.

4. Go to the Manager installation folder (“…\Automai\Manager”), create a zip file of “data” and "media" folders, and save them.

5. Once you are done, start the Automai services.

*Automai RPA does not support downgrade between major/minor releases. It is strongly recommended to back up your data before any upgrade.

Note: When upgrading between major versions (e.g. from 8.4.0.0 to 8.5.0.0 where the first two numbers are different), you do require a new license. To request a new license, please contact Automai Support team.

Steps to upgrade Automai RPA and rWorkers from version 8.4.X.X to 8.5.X.X

When upgrades are available, a notification icon will show up on the top right of the navigation pane in the Manager.

1. Click on Download icon to download the RPASetup.exe file from Automai website.

2. Run the setup file you downloaded with administrator privileges.

3. Log into the Robot machines and restart the robot process “rWorker.exe” in order for it to be updated correctly.

Tip: Sometimes rWorkers might not get the updates due to security or network reasons, if this happens; you can go to "...\Automai\Manager\media\update" folder and run "rWorkerSetup.exe" on your Robots machines manually. 

4. Once the upgrading process is complete, log out of the application and clear the browser cache. The shortcuts to clear the cache while on Automai RPA Manager page are:

  • Windows and Linux browsers: CTRL + F5
  • Safari browser: SHIFT + Reload toolbar button
  • Chrome and Firefox browsers for Mac: CMD + SHIFT + R

To verify that you have the latest version installed click on the “User” icon on the top right corner.

Steps to upgrade Automai RPA and rWorkers from version 8.3.X.X to 8.4.0.1

Note: The default installation folder is used in the steps, if you have the application installed in a different location, you need to use that path.

1. Log in to the machine where Automai RPA is installed.

2. Download this zip file into a location of your choosing and unzip the contents.

Important: Backup the entire installation directory of your Automai RPA (Manager folder), or at least the "media" and "data" folders from it by copying them somewhere else in your hard disk drive.

3. Start the "Automai Database" windows service.

4. Copy Global_FE file and paste it under the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\data".

5. Copy 1_1_extract_data.pyc, 1_2_av_rename.pyc, and 2_add_auth.pyc files and paste them under the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\Controller".

6. Open the command prompt under the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\Controller".

7. Run the command lines:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\WebServ\bin\Py\Scripts\activate.bat"

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\WebServ\bin\Py\Scripts\python.exe" 1_1_extract_data.pyc

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\WebServ\bin\Py\Scripts\python.exe" 1_2_av_rename.pyc

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\WebServ\bin\Py\Scripts\python.exe" 2_add_auth.pyc

8. Make sure that you received success as a result; report any errors to support@automai.com.

9. Download the RPASetup.exe file from Automai website.

10. Run the upgrade file RPASetup.exe and make sure that the"Automai Scheduler" and "Automai Database" services are running after the process is complete.

Note: Make sure to choose the correct installation folder and install the application in the location where Automai RPA Manager is currently installed.

11. Stop the "Automai Scheduler" and "Automai Database" services using windows Task Manager.

12. Edit the file: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\bin\vdb" by removing the line auth=true.

13. Start the "Automai Database" windows service.

14. Open the command prompt under the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\bin".

15. Run the command lines:

"mongo.exe"

db.adminCommand( { setFeatureCompatibilityVersion: "3.4" } )

16. Make sure that you received OK as a result; report any errors to support@automai.com.

17. Stop the "Automai Database" windows service.

18. Edit the file: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\bin\vdb" by adding the line auth=true.

19. Edit the file: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\Webserv\conf\httpd.conf" by replacing the following line:

LoadModule wsgi_module modules/mod_wsgi.so

with the following three lines:

LoadModule wsgi_module "c:/program files (x86)/automai/manager/webserv/bin/py/lib/site-packages/mod_wsgi/server/mod_wsgi.cp36-win_amd64.pyd"

WSGIPythonHome "c:/program files (x86)/automai/manager/webserv/bin"

HttpProtocolOptions Unsafe

Also, replace the following two lines:

DocumentRoot "C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\Controller\apps"

<Directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\Controller\apps">

with the following two lines:

DocumentRoot "C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\Controller\Apps_FE"

<Directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\Automai\Manager\Controller\Apps_FE">

20. Start the "Automai Database", "Automai Scheduler", and "Automai Webserver" services using windows Task Manager.

21. Log into the Robots machines and restart the robot process “rWorker.exe” in order for it to be updated correctly to 8.4.0.1.
